That's a sweet little travel bonus, but a bummer that your flights were all messed up. I hope everything went ok with the prop plane. That sounds kinda sketchy but also really fun. That's funny that Kyle’s dad is nicknamed Bear. I hope you didn't miss me too much. I've still got another 15 transfers to go. Transfers are this week by the way, so now I have been out for a whole transfer. Me and Elder brown are both staying in this area which we figured since training takes two transfers. But we have to go to the mission office Thursday because since there were so many new people and people transferring, President Baker decide to have a mission wide conference training. I'm hoping they will announce that we are getting Ipads next transfer but that doesn't look too promising. Maybe I will be able to see Elder Funk and Elder Murray there.
That's crazy swim is already starting. That means summer is basically over. It does not feel like it has been that long since I was still at NAU in class. Tell Tate good luck with swim and to have a good time at swim. If you just go and work out and come home it will probably be awful. What made swim so awesome for me was the guys on the team and hanging out with them during the practices. You still have to work out and work hard but as he will probably hear from Rob the Mountain View swim team works hard and then parties hard.
I'm glad you guys had a good time in Alaska. I have never really heard anything bad about Alaska summers. I have only heard good things. IT sounds like a fun place to go and I definitely will have to make a trip up there sometime in my life.
I'm doing pretty good. I'm not sure how long I will be in this area although I would guess another two transfers or three months. So till the beginning of November. And hurricane season doesn't seem like a huge thing cause nobody has talked about it but we did get a thing in the mail saying to start preparing now because hurricane season is coming. And it had information on evacuation routes and procedures and then a list of a few things for a 72 hour kit but I would still like you to send me a list because I don't know where that thing ended up. I think we may have thrown it away.
Our investigators seem to be doing ok. All of them are either progressing very slowly or aren't progressing. This past week was kinda annoying. We had a lot of lessons set up and probably over half of them canceled or rescheduled. So we did mostly service with the Bonds family. They are moving houses and so we have been helping them clean, paint, and move their stuff. Their new house use to belong to a smoker so everything is covered in nicotine. We would spray the walls with the cleaner and it would just drip yellowy black down the walls. It was so gross. The house is actually really nice besides that though so once it's clean and repainted then it will be a very nice house. The picture of the mouse I put into the drop box was in their shed as we were cleaning that out. We also cleaned out their attic from all the stuff the lady left behind. There was a lot of junk up there and then a few pretty cool things but sadly we threw them away since I can't use them on a mission and they didn't want them. I thought about mailing them home but that probably would have been expensive so we just tossed them.
We did meet with the investigator who was unsure about God and he has started to kinda pray. He said that he was practicing praying and then this last week when I said the closing prayer he added some stuff after I finished. So that was really cool to see. I am always excited to go to their house each week. This past week he was expressing that he was feeling guilt and remorse from things he had done years ago and so we talked to him about the atonement and gave him a pamphlet on the gospel of Jesus Christ and told him to read over the repentance section so I am hoping he did but he may not have because he says that he doesn't like book answers. He says he likes talking to us because we talk to him instead of just reading things to him. So I'll have to update you about that next week. Remind me though in your letter or I will forget. If there is ever anyone or anything you want me to follow up with then let me know in your letters.
That sounds like a fun birthday for Tate. And my suggestion for a subject would be prayer, the Atonement, or Sabbath Day. Those have seemed to be standing out to me a lot since being on my mission but that's for me you should study what you think will help you the most.
My message for the week is to strive for your potential. We were listening to a talk earlier about our potential to become like god and to become perfect people. And so as I was thinking about this I was thinking about last week and small and simple things. I think that we should always be trying to improve our selves by doing small things and over time if we are always progressing then we will become perfect. The challenge is to always be progressing. I love the escalator analogy and i feel that it applies to everything we do not just the gospel. We are going up a down escalator. We need to always be moving up because the moment we stop and stand still we start moving down. If we aren't progressing then we are digressing. If you play an instrument or a sport and you practice you get better but if you stop and you leave it for a week or a month or sometimes years you start to forget things not to mention for sports you are probably getting weaker and so you can't start were you left off. It is the same with our spirits and our spiritual strength. We have to be continually nourishing them and strengthening them or we become spiritually week. So my goal is to always be improving and my plan to reach this goal is to make goals each week to work on and improve at.
I love so much and wish you the best this next week!
Dear Dad, This week was pretty good. We did a lot of service for our bishop and his family. We helped them clean their new house and move some things there. The work is moving along. It seems kinda slow but I can see some huge differences in our investigators from the time i first met them to now.
Alaska sounds like a lot of fun! that sounds like quite the eventful week! we will have to go again in two years. ;)
I think i got most of the details of the events that I wanted to know about from everyone else but if something comes to mind I'll let you know. No one talked about the glacier though. How was that? do you have pictures?
And i was going to put this in mom's email but I forgot so you will have to share it but Last night we had dinner with the Huies and Mark the dad knew Samuel's cousin Michael Kerr's dad. President kerrs brother. He said that he did his dentist training with him or something. Small world Well that all I really have for now. Love you!
